I want to bring information on mental health to people searching for it. I started with issues at the age of 4. I know that sounds young but once you read the three part story of my life you'll understand. I am also going to share with you the ongoing story of a 16yr old boy and his walk with a mental issue. He's a close friends child and I promised to share it to hopefully help other parents if they have to face the same. Otherwise , I will bring you information on various disorders, symptoms and issues those of us with a mental health condition have to face daily; so you might understand us better. I'll also bring to you issues such as mentally ill in prisons, lack of mental hospitals and new regulations when they come about. If you have something you'd like to have included drop me a note. I'd love to hear from you.
I realize there are a lot of blogs out here on mental health but I'm planning on letting you guide me on what you want and need to know about, for my posts.
This is the place you will find all things sent in by you the readers to share with everyone else. The form will be in the way of poetry or Prose. At times I will publish a special contribution from someone connected to the Mental Health World.
My Invisible Demon.
Cold, clammy, reptilian skin. Face and hair drenched with the sweat of a dozen Texas summers. Eyes wild with fear and lost on a street you drive every day. Caught up in a panic attack again.
You use the tools the therapist has given you in sessions. Breathe in slow, 1, 2, 3, 4. Hold, 2, 3, 4. Breathe out, 2, 3, 4. Repeat. Visualize that beautiful, peaceful meadow in the Spring. Everything just starting to bloom, birds singing so sweetly, a quiet creek babbling, fish jumping, as a gentle breeze caresses your skin.
Panic attack remains. Heart pounding so hard that you're just sure that it can be seen clearly by those passing by. You are now out of ideas and ready to grasp at straws when you feel the soft, firm pressure of another's hand slide into yours.
You look up into eyes filled with acceptance and nothing more. A face, not filled with pity for you but neutral with understanding that you need no words, no smile, just this tethering to something solid and alive. Just this. 5 minutes go by, then 10, and finally by 15 your heart has slowed, the sweat is drying, and your eyes are returning to focus.
Now as you look into the face of your angel they smile and simply say, "You looked like you could use a friend." as they slowly get up and walk away.

This story was shared with me by a reader of the blog and it was so beautiful that I felt like it had to be the first entered in this section. For those who have ever experienced a panic attack, you understand the value of the story and the value of their 15 minute angel.
